Johnston is situated in Providence County, Rhode Island and had a population of 29,568 as of the 2020 census. Johnston is known as the Clemence Irons House site, a stone-ender museum, and the only landfill in Rhode Island. The town was incorporated on March 6, 1759, and was named in memory of Colonial Attorney General Augustus Johnston.
